Cloudbreak Energy Signs Agreement with Google for Colorado Solar Project

Boulder-based independent power producer to deliver locally generated clean energy to offset Google’s Boulder office campus operations.

Cloudbreak Energy signs corporate solar agreement with Google to offset its Boulder campus, delivered under Xcel Energy’s Off-Site Net Metering (OS-NM) program

BOULDER, Colo. — September 24, 2026 — Cloudbreak Energy today announced an agreement with Google for a dedicated solar facility to be delivered under Xcel Energy’s Off-Site Net Metering (OS-NM) program. The agreement will provide Google with locally generated renewable electricity to support operations at the company’s Boulder, Colorado, office campus.

The project reflects Cloudbreak and Google’s commitment to advancing local clean energy solutions designed to create lasting value for the community. Under the OS-NM program, electricity generated at the facility will flow onto Xcel Energy’s distribution grid and be credited against Google’s energy consumption at its Boulder office campus.

“Large power customers have historically had to choose between scale and locality. This project with Google shows they don’t have to, given the right offtake solution,” said Becca Gallery, Managing Partner and Head of Business Development of Cloudbreak Energy. “We built the project around the specifics of their Boulder operations and the realities of the local grid. Distributed solar, structured properly and delivered through local utility programs can meet the standards of the most sophisticated energy buyers in the world. It’s an exciting time to be operating in the distributed generation space and we expect to form a lot more corporate partnerships like this one.”

“Boulder has been an important home for Google for two decades, and collaborating with Cloudbreak Energy allows us to bring new, dedicated solar generation to the grid that serves our Boulder office,” said Liz Ries, Carbon Reduction Program Manager at Google. “We’re proud to be one of the largest corporate purchasers of clean energy in the world, and this project marks another milestone in demonstrating how corporate energy procurement can deliver real, local impact.”

The agreement demonstrates how corporate renewable energy procurement can support local operations while advancing regional climate goals. Google is directly and fully funding the development of the new solar capacity within the same utility territory where it operates, ensuring that the clean energy benefits are real, local, and additive to the Colorado grid, without shifting costs to other ratepayers. For Cloudbreak, the project represents the maturation of its corporate offtake business and a proof point that distributed solar can meet the requirements of the world’s most sophisticated energy buyers. The project is expected to reach commercial operation before the end of 2028.

Consistent with the standards Cloudbreak holds across all of its projects, the facility will deliver clean, reliable power directly to the local distribution grid, prioritize local labor for construction and land maintenance, restore the site with a dryland seed mix that supports soil health and regional biodiversity, and generate meaningful property tax revenue for the county.

Cloudbreak is actively developing a pipeline of corporate solar and storage projects across Colorado and other national markets.
